On April 17, 2026, England-based band The Last Dinner Party took to New Haven for their first-ever show in the Connecticut area. The crowd's excitement had been brewing since their initial album release, allowing the enjoyment to reach its peak that night while celebrating From The Pyre.
Their sophomore album followed up the success of the debut, which brought singles like “Nothing Matters." The latest record carries a new story that quickly poured out of the band, with little time between records.
The Last Dinner Party quickly rose to fame for being unapologetically themselves and expressing emotions like rage and desire through a feminine lens; many found their work deeply resonant. Part of what brings so much power to the band is that each member is able to be uniquely themselves.
The Pyre itself is an allegorical place in which these tales originate, a place of violence and destruction but also regeneration, passion, and light. The songs are character-driven yet deeply personal, with a commonplace life event pushed to pathological extremes. Being ghosted becomes a Western dance with a killer, and heartbreak laughs into the face of the apocalypse. Lyrics invoke rifles, scythes, sailors, saints, cowboys, floods, Mother Earth, Joan of Arc, and blazing infernos, according to the group in their press release for the tour.
On the stage, they brought to life this fantastical environment in front of the crowd, featuring a well with a big bell hanging over it and metal birds hanging from the ceiling to complement the performance.
In the same vein as their whimsical nature, The Last Dinner Party brought Florence Road, an indie band based in Ireland, to Connecticut with them. Florence Road is known for their similar aesthetic to The Last Dinner Party and power behind their songs, often blending folklore elements with reality.

With Florence Road having recently released their brand new EP Spring Forward, it was a night of hearing new sounds from these contemporary artists. Tracks like “Rabbits Can Swim” and "Hanging Out to Dry" mirror the otherworldly energy that the crowd became mystified by throughout the night.
This set was an ode to the feelings that you don't let out until there's nothing you can do but let them run free and the consequences ricochet.
Similar to the grit that Florence Road is able to bring to the stage, there was an undeniable power in hearing the blending of voices that occurs in The Last Dinner Party. At times it felt like they were in an uneasy choral accompaniment to the end of the world.
Despite the darker nature to a lot of their songs, facing moments of killers and the blazing of Hell’s Inferno, there are moments of light, from the discussion of a dance tutorial to the discussion of New Haven apizza and which spot has the best pizza. .

What was perhaps the most special moment of the night was the performance of one of their tracks in Albanian, as pianist Aurora Nischevci spoke to the beauty of cultures that blend together in America and being able to accept each other and find community within our cultures.
While band member Georgia Davies, known for her work on the bass, was unfortunately unable to make the performance due to an injury, fellow members Lizzie Mayland, Emily Roberts, and Abigail Morris ensured that her presence was there in spirit by dedicating a song to her.
Not only was there magic on stage but also off of it, as the band was both selling and wearing ribbons in their hair. Proceeds for every ribbon were donated for local food shelters in the area thanks to their partnership with WhyHunger, allowing for direct positive impact to be made in each city that they visited.

By the time their set came to a close with the encore featuring “Agnus Dei” as a reprise, the uproar from the crowd to continue was one of the loudest that I had ever heard ring out in the venue.
It's clear that the group was able to make their mark on the New Haven area, and as they closed out the show promising to be back, it's clear that they will leave behind yet another mark on the Connecticut area.
