5 Seconds of Summer at Darien Lake Amphitheater, NY – August 3, 2026: A Fangirl’s Dream

If you had told me back in 2022 that I’d one day have a photo pass for 5 Seconds of Summer at one of my hometown venues, I would’ve laughed in your face. But there I was, standing in the photo pit at Darien Lake Amphitheatre, watching the band that inspired me to pick up concert photography in the first place. And let me tell you, this might be the best 5SOS show I’ve ever seen.

From the moment they stepped on stage, it was clear this wasn’t just a concert. It was an experience. 5SOS has always been incredible at engaging their audience, and this show was no exception. As they say, "Real fans save bands, and real bands save fans," and that’s exactly what they did. The crowd was part of the show, especially with their interactive "secret song" vote, which made everyone feel like they got to choose their own adventure. Our secret song was “Start Over” and everyone freaked out!

The way the show was structured was hilarious. The band leaned into their reputation as a "boy band" (a label they’ve famously hated) and turned it into a satirical masterpiece. They dressed like *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, arrived in a limo, and even accepted a fake award for "Boy Band of the Year." The entire night felt like a comedy special mixed with a rock concert. They’re half musicians, half comedians, and it’s perfect for all the fans who have loved them for years.

The flashing lights made the whole thing feel like a scene out of a movie, and the energy was electric. I was starstruck when they came out, and the excitement only grew as the night went on. Hearing Calum Hood play "Don’t Forget You Love Me" and Ashton Irwin sing "Have U Found What Ur Looking For?" were absolute highlights of the show. Their solo moments were just as powerful as their group performances, and it was amazing to see each member shine.

But what really stood out was their passion. Behind all the jokes and satire, you could tell they genuinely love what they do. They threw balloons and blow-up dummies of themselves into the crowd, played their deepest cuts, and made sure every fan left feeling like they’d been part of something special.

And as if this show wasn’t enough, I got to experience soundcheck at their Toronto show two days later. The "press booth" at the front of the stage was hilarious, and they even played "Caramel," one of my favorite songs! It made my entire day.

5 Seconds of Summer puts on the best show in the world. I could rave about them forever, but honestly, you just have to see it for yourself. If you haven’t caught them live yet, what are you waiting for? Put on some skinny jeans and get punk-jumping!
